Dr. Schiffner has a Ph.D. from The University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and has been a practicing psychologist for over 10 years in a diverse array of settings (i.e., counseling centers, private practice, academia and medical setting via rehabilitation/nursing homes). She has worked with diverse client populations, and more recently with older adults who have multiple medical concerns as well as distinct life changes due to geriatric needs. Dr. Schiffner also has additional training in EMDR, clinical hypnosis as well as alternative complementary treatments to include Yoga, Reiki (Master Level), and Energy Healing techniques. Inherent in her work as a psychologist is an emphasis on holistic approaches that honor the interconnectedness of the mind, body and spirit so to promote an empowered sense of wellbeing and life satisfaction. Dr. Schiffner incorporates respect and competent treatment for the many facets of diversity within the human experience; she works in support of these for the greater good of the client and societal wellness. She utilizes relational theories combined with solution-focused, cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, and strengths-based to help clients discover personal meaning, develop life skills, build resiliency, as well as promote self-care and wellness. Her approach is guided by the clinical nature of the concerns, which can in turn be collaborative, consultative and/or directive; hence tailored to meet the unique and specific needs of the client. Her style is a relational one that is interactive and inviting of non-judgmental curiosity so to achieve insight and self-compassion throughout the change process. She enjoys working with adults with a variety of presenting problems; those who are committed to their change process for the purposes of emotional and spiritual growth.
