Bio

Dr. McInerney is a recent transplant to Florida, hailing from Aurora, Illinois. She worked as a Clinical Supervisor, training interns, and also worked in private practice. She worked in Occupational Health for 20 years prior to obtaining her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, with a specialization in Health Psychology, in 1992. Dr. McInerney sees the mind-body connection as important to understand her patients. She treats adults and older adults, both in individual, couples’ and trans-generational therapy. Dr. McInerney finds that understanding personality differences can be key to satisfying relationships. She is an eclectic therapist who uses a cognitive-behavioral approach, along with mindfulness, in treating depression and anxiety disorders. Metaphors and humor also have found their way into her style.

She is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which helps individuals who have experienced trauma. She has worked with individuals who have experienced workplace trauma, sexual trauma, and war-time psychological trauma.

When not working, Dr. McInerney is an active person who has embraced Florida’s endless summer with sailing, kayaking, gardening, birding, and bicycling.
